About Tigers Eye

Displays chatoyancy - a silky luster that moves across the surface like a cats eye. The effect is caused by parallel fibers of crocidolite (blue asbestos) replaced by silica. Blue tigers eye is called hawks eye. Red tigers eye is heat-treated golden material. Roman soldiers wore it into battle for courage. South Africa is the primary source. It is a variety of quartz.
