About Seraphinite

A trade name for a gemmy variety of clinochlore that displays silvery chatoyant patterns resembling feathered angel wings - hence the name seraphim. Found only in eastern Siberia, Russia. The silver feather-like patterns are caused by mica inclusions. It is relatively soft and best for pendants and earrings. It is increasingly popular in metaphysical circles. The contrasting dark green and silver patterns are striking. It takes an excellent polish. Despite its beauty, it remains affordable due to limited demand. It is found in the Korshunovskoye iron ore deposit. It is sometimes called sencite.
