Rose Quartz
About Rose Quartz
The pink variety of quartz, usually found in massive form rather than as crystals. Its soft color is caused by microscopic fibers of a mineral related to dumortierite. Well formed rose quartz crystals are rare, with famous specimens from Minas Gerais in Brazil. The color can fade with prolonged exposure to sunlight. It is the state mineral of South Dakota. Large pieces are carved into spheres, beads, and figurines. Brazil and Madagascar are major sources.
