About Rhodolite Garnet

A purplish red garnet that is a blend of pyrope and almandine. The name comes from the Greek for rose stone, after the color of rhododendron flowers. It was first described from the Cowee Valley of North Carolina in the late 19th century. East Africa, Sri Lanka, and India are major modern sources. It is usually clean and bright, making it a popular affordable gem. It is rarely treated.
