Moonstone (Rainbow)
About Moonstone (Rainbow)
Rainbow moonstone is technically a variety of labradorite, not true orthoclase moonstone, but it displays a similar but more vivid blue and rainbow adularescence. The flash can show blue, green, yellow, and sometimes orange. India and Madagascar are the primary sources. It has become extremely popular in modern jewelry design. The finest specimens show a vivid blue flash visible from 2 meters away. Prices have increased significantly as demand has grown. It is more durable than true moonstone. The flash is caused by light interference between microscopic feldspar layers.
