About Larimar

Found in only one location on Earth - a remote mountainous area in the Dominican Republic. Its blue color patterns resemble Caribbean ocean water. It was discovered in 1916 but not mined until 1974 when Norman Rilling and Miguel Mendez named it (LARIssa + MAR, the sea). It is a variety of pectolite. The blue color comes from copper inclusions. The mine is a single mountainside tunnel. It is relatively soft and best for occasional-wear jewelry. It is the national stone of the Dominican Republic. Prices increase as the single deposit is gradually depleted. It often displays white and blue patterns.
