Hiddenite
About Hiddenite
The green variety of the mineral spodumene and the sister of pink kunzite. It is named after William Earl Hidden, who was sent to North Carolina by Thomas Edison to search for platinum and found the green gem instead. Fine stones from Alexander County, North Carolina, are colored by chromium. It shows strong pleochroism, appearing different colors from different angles. Its perfect cleavage makes it difficult to cut.
