About Goshenite

The colorless variety of beryl, the same mineral family as emerald and aquamarine. It was once used as a substitute for diamond before modern synthetics. It has excellent clarity and brilliance. It is named after Goshen, Massachusetts where it was first found. It is the purest form of beryl, without the impurities that color other varieties. It is relatively inexpensive. It makes an excellent alternative to diamond in jewelry. Over 30 beryl species and varieties exist. It is found worldwide.
