Demantoid Garnet
About Demantoid Garnet
A brilliant green variety of andradite garnet, discovered in the Ural Mountains of Russia in the 19th century. Its dispersion, or fire, is higher than that of diamond. The finest Russian stones contain golden fibrous inclusions called horsetails. It was a favorite of the jeweler Carl Faberge and of the Russian aristocracy. Newer deposits were found in Namibia and Madagascar. Its green color comes from chromium and iron.
