Aventurine
About Aventurine
A quartz containing tiny platy mineral inclusions that give a glittering effect known as aventurescence. Green aventurine owes its color and sparkle to fuchsite, a chromium rich mica. The name comes from the Italian a ventura, meaning by chance, after a glittering glass called goldstone said to have been discovered by accident in Venice. India is the main source of green aventurine. It is used for beads, cabochons, and carvings.
