Ametrine
About Ametrine
A natural quartz with zones of purple amethyst and golden citrine in the same crystal. The two colors arise from different oxidation states of iron in different growth zones. Almost all natural ametrine comes from the Anahi mine in eastern Bolivia. Legend says a Spanish conquistador received the mine as a dowry when he married a local princess named Anahi. Cutters orient stones to show a sharp boundary between the two colors.
