Amazonite
About Amazonite
A green to blue green variety of microcline feldspar. Its color is linked to traces of lead and water in the crystal structure. Despite its name, there are no confirmed deposits in the Amazon basin. The finest crystals, often paired with smoky quartz, come from the Pikes Peak area of Colorado. Ancient Egyptians carved it into amulets and beads. It has perfect cleavage, so it must be handled with care.
