Tiger Iron
About Tiger Iron
A natural composite of tigers eye (golden chatoyant), red jasper, and hematite. It is a banded iron formation, some of the oldest rocks on Earth at 2-3 billion years old. It displays dramatic striped patterns in gold, red, and metallic gray. South Africa and Australia produce the best material. It is used for cabochons, carvings, and decorative objects. It represents the three mineral components fused by geological processes over billions of years. It is relatively inexpensive. It takes an excellent polish. Each piece has unique banding patterns.
