About Maw Sit Sit
Found in only one location - the Maw Sit Sit region of Myanmar. It is a rare rock composed of several minerals including kosmochlor (jadeite chromian), creating vivid green with black and white patterns. It was discovered in 1963 by Swiss gemologist Edward Gubelin. It is sometimes called chloromelanite. It is related to jade but is a distinct material. It has a distinctive mottled appearance. It is relatively obscure but valued by collectors. It is used primarily for cabochons and carvings. The mine produces limited quantities.
