Diaspore
About Diaspore
Marketed as Csarite or Zultanite from Turkish deposits. It displays dramatic color change: champagne in daylight, kiwi-green under fluorescent light, and raspberry under candlelight. It is found primarily in Turkeys Mugla Province. It is difficult to cut due to perfect cleavage. It is one of the few natural color-change gemstones besides alexandrite. It is relatively new to the gem market, introduced commercially in the 1990s. Fine gems over 5 carats are rare. It is named from Greek diaspora (scattering) for its tendency to decrepitate when heated.
