Moldavite
About Moldavite
Formed 15 million years ago when a meteorite struck what is now Germany, creating a tektite - natural glass formed by meteorite impact. Found only in the Czech Republic. It is one of the rarest natural glasses on Earth. Its surface shows distinctive sculpturing from etching during flight and landing. The total estimated quantity is 275 tons, most already collected. Prices have risen dramatically as supplies dwindle. It has been used in jewelry since the Stone Age - the oldest known moldavite artifact is 30,000 years old. New Age practitioners consider it one of the most powerful spiritual stones. The Viking legend of the Grail Stone may refer to moldavite.
