Jeremejevite
About Jeremejevite
One of the rarest minerals on Earth, found in only a few locations worldwide. The best blue specimens come from Namibia. It was first discovered in Siberia in 1883. Gem-quality crystals are extremely rare and small - most faceted stones are under 2 carats. It is aluminum borate. Blue jeremejevite can resemble aquamarine but is far rarer. Prices for fine blue gems exceed $2,000 per carat. It occurs as elongated prismatic crystals. Germany and Tajikistan also produce some material. It is one of the few borate minerals that occur in gem quality. Collectors prize fine crystals.
